![]() It is known that the Greeks were people who practised syncretism, i.e. Two details stand out: the use of the Kausia, a hat of Macedonian origin that Alexander's troops carried with them (today it is called Pakul) and the Lion on the shield, which is a representation of the Snow Lion, one of the symbols of Buddhism. This is my proposal for the representation of one of these Greek-Bactrian warriors. These Greeks took root and, years later, collaborated with the Greek satrap Diodotus I to gain independence from the Seleucid Empire (the region granted to Alexander's general Seleucus). Bactria is a region now located between Pakistan and Afghanistan, where Alexander settled a colony of Greeks to garrison the trade routes they passed through. By this I mean that many areas that came under Greek influence during Alexander's conquests also developed their own versions of the Macedonian hoplites or phalangists, such as the Bactrians. Hello again! This time we are back with an illustration from the Classical Antiquity period, a Greek-Bactrian warrior proposal.Ī curious thing about the world of military illustration is that when it comes to representing the ancient world, authors always tend to focus on the mythical figure of the hoplite, as the basis of the war system of the Hellenic world, representing soldiers from the Greek area but forgetting that the Greek influence went beyond the limits of the Peloponnesian peninsula.
